STAR-FLOWERED FALSE SOLOMON’S SEAL (Maianthemum stellatum)

Beautiful star-like flowers give way to berries that are red when mature, but start out green with dark red stripes. This is a great ground cover that has adapted to a wide variety of habitats, from woodland to dry prairie, sand to clay soils. It can spread quickly from rhizomes to form colonies, but is open to sharing its habitat with other species.

Grows with Canada mayflower, wild sarsaparilla, wild strawberry, northern bedstraw, sun-loving sedge, white-grained mountain rice grass, saskatoon and American hazelnut.
