Tall manna grass (Glyceria grandis)

This tall, cool season grass sports large, open panicles that are maroon in colour. Its shiny, yellow-green foliage is also quite attractive. Tall manna grass plays an important role in erosion control and the seeds provide food for waterfowl. It spreads by rhizomes and seeds and may be able to withstand the invasive advances of reed canary grass.

Grows with various bulrushes and sedges, cord grass, swamp milkweed, water parsnip and tufted loosestrife.
