This sedge has a feature that’s unique to all North American sedges – the round to egg-shaped fruits turn bright orange when ripe! Golden sedge prefers moist sandy, rocky or calcareous soil.
Grows with tufted hairgrass, prairie dropseed, alexanders, wild strawberry, many-flowered aster and golden ragwort.
