YELLOW STARGRASS (Hypoxis hirsuta)
Ranked S3, or vulnerable, in Manitoba, yellow stargrass puts on an amazing show in spring and early summer. The leaves are sedge-like with sparse long hairs. Stargrass does well in prairie settings that don’t have a lot of tall competition and is incredibly attractive when intermixed with blue-eyed grass.
Grows with violets, wild strawberry, upland white goldenrod, tufted hairgrass and prairie dropseed.
