EASTERN VIRGIN’S-BOWER (Clematis virginiana)

This tendril-less vine produces clusters of pure white star-burst flowers that turn into fluffy, beard-like plumes. The plumes remain on the vine throughout the winter. Eastern virgin’s-bower is ranked S2 (imperilled) in Manitoba where it reaches the northwest extent of its range.
