SHOWY OR GRAY GOLDENROD (Solidago nemoralis)

This short perennial starts off with a basal rosette of leaves which produces a single, leafy flowering stem. Leaning or nodding clusters of golden yellow flowers are uniquely arranged on one side of the stem. Short white hairs on the leaves and stem may give it a grayish appearance. Plants may form small colonies.

Grows with upland white goldenrod, blue-eyed grass, black-eyed susan, self-heal, stiff goldenrod, big bluestem, Sorghastrum, and prairie dropseed.
