WILD STRAWBERRY (Fragaria virginiana)
A common understory plant in both prairie and woodland habitats. Simple white flowers appear in early spring, followed by the most delicious fruit in the world. Wild strawberry spreads by runners, making it a great ground cover, but it is easily overtopped by taller species.
