Evening Primrose

EVENING PRIMROSE (Oenothera biennis)

Plants are biennial, producing a basal rosette of finely fuzzy leaves the first year and a tall, leafy stem and flower spike the second year. Large yellow flowers with heart-shaped petals and a wonderful fruity aroma open from the bottom to top of long spikes. This is one plant that’s just as attractive in the winter as it is in the summer. Plants produce copious amounts of seed. First-year roots are edible.
